Take 29 minutes and watch the video launched last week called KONY 2012. Within less than one week it has over 50 million views. Jason Russell, a cofounder of Invisible Children, produced the video and it is powerful. He makes a celebrity out of a horrible man – bringing his atrocities to light and creating a campaign to ensure everyone in the world knows what Joseph Kony is doing in Uganda to children. With the publicity Russell and Invisible Children hope to create a groundswell against this man. Stopping the kidnappings, the murders, the sexual abuses.

Take a look.

If there is time to look at only one site everyday, not including MILKSHAKE, of course, I look at Remodelista. The images they show are better than eating candy. Everyday there is a visual inspiration, a find, a new product, a cool, trendy store -but all done through images. Yesterday I was so happy to see gorgeous Peruvian rugs – one of my daughters will be in Peru all summer and I can send her scouting.

GREEN LENTIL SOUP WITH CURRIED BROWN BUTTER

2 tablespoons unsalted butter, ghee, or extra-virgin coconut oil
1 large yellow onion, chopped
3 cloves garlic, chopped
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
5 1/2 cups / 1.3 liters vegetable broth or water

1 1/2 cups / 10.5 oz / 300 g green lentils or green split peas, picked over and rinsed

3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 tablespoon Indian curry powder
1/2 cup / 125 ml coconut milk
Fine-grain sea salt
1 bunch fresh chives, minced

Combine the 2 tablespoons butter, onion, garlic, and red pepper flakes in a large soup pot over medium heat, stirring regularly, until the onions soften, a couple minutes. Add the vegetable broth and lentils and simmer, covered, until the lentils are tender. This usually takes 20 to 30 minutes, but can take as long as 50 minutes.

In the meantime, warm the 3 tablespoons butter in a small saucepan over medium heat and let it brown. When it starts to smell nutty and fragrant, stir in the curry powder and sauté until the spices are fragrant, less than a minute.

When the lentils are finished cooking, remove from the heat, stir in the coconut milk and 1/4 teaspoon salt, and puree with an immersion blender. You can leave the soup a bit chunky if you like, or puree until it is perfectly smooth. Stir in half of the spiced butter, taste, and add more salt, if needed, typically a couple of teaspoons if you used water instead of a salted broth. Serve drizzled with the remaining spice butter and sprinkled with chives.

Serves 4 to 6

2011 is the year for us to really grow Jurkowitz & Co. We have been working at full capacity on...

2011 is the year for us to really grow Jurkowitz & Co. We have been working at full capacity on a few big projects and have recently taken on a few other exciting smaller, new ventures. Our biggest advantage is our nimbleness… we are thinkers more than anything and have built extraordinary relationships with talented experts allowing us to jump from project to project and leave our clients happy.

The launch of MILKSHAKE, a daily email full of great finds that give back, was the biggest event in 2010. It was in beta for the last quarter of 2010 and went live to the world just last week. The social platform of milkshake is its most exciting proposition. There are so many people in the world doing great things and the word is spreading.

Field & Stream continues to build steam in the licensing world. The Dick’s Field & Stream line is selling well and the number of sku’s growing. We are still determined to find a way to launch a Field & Stream Lodge somewhere in the US.

We had a great project with one of the Major League Baseball Teams recently – no names disclosed, but a lot of fun to work in that space.

Our smaller clients are in development modes. Quietly working hard to break into their perspective markets. Always find it inspiring to work with passionate entrepreneurs.

So, we find ourselves in a strong position for the start of 2011. Everything is about balance and that is what we strive for – balancing work and family. The fun is in both!

We are excited to announce the launch of milkshake is only 10 days away.
Milkshake, a daily free email full of great finds that give back, is dedicated to scouring and delivering the best, most interesting information found around the globe. We cover products, food, travel, people, culture, design and lifestyle with the caveat that everything featured gives back in some capacity. We bring exposure to causes and initiatives and celebrate all those that do good and make a difference.

We founded milkshake and combined our love of products, design, trend and business with our passion to support efforts that make an impact on the world. Long time Daily Candy readers, we wanted to do for discovery and social good what Daily Candy did for fashion and girl tips.

The development of milkshake has been a serendipitous process thus far – it is one of those ideas that catches on because it is positive, happy, good – promoting good causes, good products, good finds, good deeds.

We look forward to sharing milkshake on November 15th – on facebook and twitter too!

My dad was in town last night and was telling us about a company he serves on a board for – called Sprout. Sprout is a line of baby food that was developed by the co-founder, Tyler Florence – father and chef. Packaging is eco -friendly and in a pouch and ingredients pure organic. Sprout just got the ok to go into WalMart which will clearly increase their distribution significantly. Wal Mart is a tough customer to ship to, but it sounds as though Sprout although a relative new start up, has it together to handle shipping to Wal-Mart. Love the Sprout concept, packaging, name and message. Too bad that my baby is 12 years old….

You would think this is an area without much creativity. We have been researching and trying out different email list management companies and believe it or not, these firms do everything they can to make this dry task fun. We are signing on with MAILCHIMP. They are responsive, interactive and make creating, testing, editing and tracking lists actually enjoyable. Best of all their customer service is quick and personable – can’t top that. Now, if someone could just input the 5,000 email names sitting on my computer to their database….
